Film Series Trailer: “Be realistic, demand the impossible!” Cinema, Surrealism, Marxism at BAM

“Throwing food, throwing bombs, throwing tantrums, throwing parties, throwing Molotov cocktails...”

This introductory line from series programmer Yasmina Price served as the jumping off point for one of my favorite projects of all time! I always love having the opportunity to take a complex concept and distill it to it’s written essence. We wanted to capture the chaotic, messy, radically impolite qualities of these anarchic fictions and experimental oddities.

Dance Performance Trailer: Corps extrêmes, Next Wave Festival 2023 at BAM

For Rachid Ouramdane’s high-flying Corps extrêmes, I wanted to evoke the sense of magnitude and scale at which these athlete-artists were working. This quietly magnificent piece of aerial dance takes place mostly above the stage on a giant rockwall and slackline. In accordance with the dance company’s vision, we produced a short trailer that is spare, ascetic, and meditative.

Just imagine you’re hanging out in your friend’s basement watching Chucky wield a knife, stuffing your face with Milk Duds and popcorn.

Let’s face it: artists can’t do their thing without money. I’ve had plenty of practice putting revenue strategy to paper. This was the key messaging behind our end-of-year giving campaign—I wanted to come up with a tagline that puts individuals in direct relationship with the renegade magic that is BAM.

Capturing the essence of one of the greatest documentaries of all time is no small task. For this spread in our monthly cinema brochure, it was necessary to convey the magnitude of this rarely-screened, multi-part cinematic record of the Chilean revolution while still maintaining readability and accessibility.

This ain’t your average rock-doc! Hope polished up your creepers and managed to stayed hydrated because this week-long special screening was a hot, sweaty, high-octane party from start to finish.

Another really interesting conceptual challenge! The immensely talented artist and filmmmaker James N. Kientiz Wilkins’ incomparable, convention-defying film is comprised of photo-stills from some of Hollywood’s biggest block-busters. The creative team set out to capture his artistic vision in punchy, easy-to-digest visual and written language that even Wayne and Garth could understand.
